Enrique Testart, M.D. is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, medical entrepreneur and founder of Consortia Innovas, S.A. Innovas is a Santiago, Chile-based health management, development and biotech company that focuses on helping patients gain access to the latest treatments in regenerative medicine as they become available. One of five brothers, all of whom established careers in medicine, Dr. Testart earned his M.D. at the University of Chile and began practicing medicine in a rural agricultural center of the country. He returned to Santiago to accept a scholarship at the Hospital Dr. Exequiel González Cortés, part of the public network of Chilean Health located in the Santiago municipality of San Miguel.
In the early 1970s, Dr. Testart traveled to northeastern France to study orthopedics under Prof. Dr. Jean Paul Metaizeau. There he learned about intramedullary nailing technique Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing (ECMES), a (then) new technique that Dr. Testart would later take back to Latin America for clinical use. He remained in the region and took a position Belle Isle Hospital in Mertz to specialize in microsurgery. There he began treating children with congenital musculoskeletal pathologies such as osteogenesis imperfecta.
Dr. Testart later returned to Chile and assumed a teaching role in ECMES techniques, which are now a worldwide standard. He established a private medical practice in Santiago, founded the Association of Families of Patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, and began studying the work underway in Scandinavian countries on cell therapy. By 2000, Dr. Testart had begun monitoring state-of-the-art treatments in regenerative therapy, cell regeneration and isolation of mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow, while developing techniques and proprietary protocols in management of musculoskeletal disorders.
After further training at the Domenikus Krankennouse in Germany and expanding his clinical practice throughout Chile, Dr. Testart acted as a consultant to various health and medical organizations in a joint search for innovative medical solutions to orthopedic disorders and diseases. He began gradually incorporating elements of regenetive medicine into therapies, and founded the Institute of Biotechnology and Regenerative Medicine, dedicated to training, implementation and application of tissue regeneration therapy.
After completing internships in the USA and Mexico, Dr. Testart established Consortia Innovas, a cluster of organizations designed to address the different needs of a new generation of consumers. With more than 20 years in the public and private sectors, Consortia Innovas specializes in designing customized B2B and B2C models for each central or regional organization, providing innovative services and diagnostic precision to communities throughout Chile, determined by local needs.
